Welcome to Mrs. Newton’s classroom. I was fortunate to grow up in Linden, a small farming community nearby. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. I received my Clear Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential, Special Education, Reading Specialist, and CLAD Credentials all at Cal Poly. I attained my Master's of Education with a specialization in reading taking night classes after work. My teaching career began as a special education teacher in a school district on the Central Coast where I spent 17 years: 5 years in special education, grades 4-6, and transitioned into general education where I spent 8 years teaching third grade, 3 years at fifth, and my last year there in an K-2 SED classroom working with autistic children.
My husband and I relocated back to the area a little over four years ago. Since my family is such an important part of my life, I am thrilled to be back in the area, in the classroom, doing what I love, and to be starting my 4th year as part of the St. Anne’s family. In my free time, I love being outdoors, hiking, camping, fishing, scuba diving and when home, cooking, reading, sewing, and laughing with our three cats.
I believe that learning is a life long experience. I plan to create a love for learning—to develop
my students' skills to his/her fullest potential while creating a safe learning environment where my students can flourish academically as well as socially and become the very best learners that they can be. I am excited to play a role in shaping the attitudes and values that will influence my students throughout their education and spirituality, building a relationship with God.
There is nothing more gratifying than working with children and see their eyes light up with excitement when they learn something new or master a skill. I look forward to working with your child this year and seeing that light in your child's eye during this school year.
