My name is Sarah Smith-Gillum. I am blessed with the opportunity to be the middle school math and science teacher at Saint Stanislaus Parish School. I came to the school after several years of seeing my husband, Joseph Gillum, the kindergarten teacher; return home from days of work, excited by his career and the school family that he was a part of. I am a graduate of California State University, Stanislaus, with a degree in bilingual and cross-cultural education. During my undergraduate studies I lived and attended school in Santiago Chile. After earning my bachelor’s degree, my husband and I travelled to Cape Verde, Africa, then to the Marshall Islands, where we spent two years teaching. Upon return from the island of Majuro, I earned a multiple-subject teaching credential from CSU Stanislaus, followed by a Master of Arts degree in education and a preliminary Administrative Services Credential from the University of the Pacific.
I enjoy devoting myself to my students and helping them to move closer toward reaching their aspirations. Since my teaching career began in 2005, I have never been at a school as focused on a true education that incorporates the values of learning, as well as faith and kindness; as Saint Stanislaus. I treasure the parents that I have worked with, and feel blessed to work with my students. Outside of school, I am a mother and a wife. Our family loves to travel, hike, backpack, and camp. I enjoy reading, and learning. My goal as an educator is to convey to my students the same love of learning and the world around me that I have been blessed with throughout my life.
